Introduction

The Federal System of Government has helped to determine how our state, cities and local government functions. Although each branch is an individual entity, they do all work in conjunction to make our country work.
What are the Branches of Government? What do they do as a Branch? How do you get a job in the Federal Government? Have you ever dreamed of becoming the President, a Supreme Court Justice or maybe a Member of Congress? What are the job qualifications? What jobs might you have to hold before being ready to reach your ultimate goal? All of these questions and more will be answered by the time you complete this Web Quest.

Hold onto your hats and lets get started.

The Task

You will be asked to research a specific Branch of Government. You must produce a minimum 3 page typed report regarding your chosen Branch of Government. Within this Branch of Government, you must then choose a job position you would like to obtain. You will have to  explain what steps you must take to obtain this job. You then will have to determine a way to explain to the class the steps you would take to obtain your chosen job. This can be in the form of a resume, a chart, an oral report, a journal, a drawing ect. Be creative!

The Process
1. You will be separated into groups of 2 or 3. Each group will be responsible for submitting a typed 3 page report. The report should include answers to the following questions as well as any you feel should be added. How did the Federal System of Government begin? What is the function of your chosen branch of government? What positions do members of this branch hold?
What are the checks and balances within this branch of government?
2.As an individual you must then choose a position within a Branch of Government to research. Your search must include the duties and responsibilities of this position. The qualifications for this position. Prior employment required in preparation for this position. The salary range for this position. Other information  you feel should be added.

RESOURCES: You can use the internet - Web sites to begin your search
You can use a text book, magazine brochure, ect. Your search for answers will not be limited by the teacher. But remember you must site where this information was obtained.

Conclusion

I realize that this may seem very overwhelming at this point. Relax. This will be fun if you just allow yourself to use your imagination. Just think, I could be telling you to write a 8 to 10 page typed analysis of the three Branches of Government explaining each position in the individual Branches and listing as well as explaining all the job functions.
Once you have completed this project you will be able to identify at least one Branch of Government and explain to someone else what that Branch does. You will also be familiar with some of the job opportunities available in Government. Who knows, maybe this will inspire you to become President one day. All I ask is that I receive that personalized invitation to the inauguration.
