What is School-to-Career?
Internship program that is designed to
get students out into the real work world and provide them with experience.
Many of my STC students are looking at what career path they would like
to take as well as figuring out what type of education might they need in order
to obtain that career. Some find
that they enjoy the internship that they are working in, others find and are
glad to have found out that they don’t like that career area.
Ultimately, the STC students have a good idea of what a specific career
path would look like and hopefully come to the conclusion to the big question:
“Is this what I want to do with my life?”
We also allow some of our students to work as volunteers in different organizations in town as well as working at any establishment that they may already have a job with. Although this experience might be different from the internship, the students who are involved find that it does give them valuable experience for the future.
Who is involved?
The STC class is offered to seniors who meet 3 key criteria. First, the students must have and maintain a 1.25 GPA in their academic pursuits. Second, the students must have at least 80 credits of other academic classes from their high school career. Third, they students cannot have a history of attendance problems.
This year, we have 34 students who are involved in this program. They are working all over in a variety of locations. From the Jaffrey Rindge Vet Clinic to the Worcester Tornados, our students are working with professionals all over north central Massachusetts.
