Introduction

A cricket goes on an unexpected journey from the countryside of Connecticut to the big city of New York when he lands in a picnic basket of city folks who are enjoying a leisurely picnic in Connecticut.  Unknowingly, they pack up Chester Cricket with the rest of their belongings and take the train back to New York City.  Chester lands in the New York City Subway.  Follow Chester Cricket as he makes new friends and learns about life in New York City. 

What do you suppose it would be like if one day you landed in a new place all by yourself?

Conclusion

This lesson is intended to provide students with a visual landscape of the novel setting.  In addition, students will utilize graphic organizers, critical thinking skills, inquiry, and research skills through participation in this web quest.
