I want to welcome you all to our Memorial School family!!

We are very pleased and excited to announce that the Department of Education has officially lifted the “underperforming” status from the Winchendon school district. This was achieved through the hard work and dedication of all the teaching staff and administration. We at Memorial are very proud of our staff and students. Congratulations to all!

We want to thank all of the parents who send in their “Boxtops”. Memorial school was presented with a $1000.00 check from Hannaford’s. We collected the most “Boxtops” beating out 2400 other schools! Way to go Memorial parents!

Kindergarten registration went very well. Any parent who has not yet registered their child is urged to do so as soon as possible if you want your child to meet their teacher at their orientation on June 4th.On May 19, Winchendon will be holding its town meeting. This meeting is particularly important to Memorial school. Voting to approve the installation of a flashing light at our crosswalk will be on the agenda. We encourage as many voters as possible to attend and approve this item. We feel this is a very important and necessary safety measure for our students and staff.

Some important facts for you to know:

School door open at 8:35 AM!!  Children can go to breakfast or directly to their classroom at that time.  The late bell rings at 8:50 AM and your child will be marked tardy after the bell rings.

When dropping off your students please follow our parent drop off/pick-up procedures which are;

  1. Form a line after the school busses that are lined up at Murdock Middle High School
   2.  Please do not drop your child off in the school parking lot as this presents an         unsafe situation as there are cars arriving and leaving and we want your child to be safe. If you need to escort your child and assist him or her in carrying in projects or materials you are welcomed to park in the parking lot.

BUS

If your child is suppose to ride the bus we will have them do so unless we have a signed note saying they will be picked up and by whom.   We cannot release your child to anyone except those on the emergency sheet.

PHONES

Please provide us with phone number changes and make sure that we have at least one way of reaching you in case of an emergency.

PTO

We hope you will join our PTO as we have a great group and we raise a lot of money to support our students and school.  The first meeting is September 12th at 6:30PM and we will have day care provided. Memorial School is a very warm and welcoming school, we encourage you to volunteer and get involved in your child’s education.  All volunteers must have a CORI background check.  You can fill the form out at the Superintendent’s office.  Upon completion of the Cori check, you would then be able to volunteer at the school; the CORI is good for three years.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION-  WE HAVE SEVERAL CHILDREN IN SCHOOL WHO HAVE PEANUT ALLERGIES.  IF YOU ARE SENDING IN FOOD FOR THE CLASS, PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYTHING MADE WITH PEANUTS.  YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS MATTER IS APPRECIATED.

We have assigned one table in the cafeteria to be PEANUT FREE!  If you know that your child has a peanut allergy and would like him or her to eat at that table daily, please sign the last sheet of the newsletter and return it to your child’s teacher.  Your child can choose a friend to sit at the table with them.
